“Join me on a visual journey as I share a heartfelt tale about someone dear to me. Picture a family
unit, consisting of a loving father, a nurturing mother, and their cherished children. The father, a driven entrepreneur, has established several thriving businesses, while the mother has secured a fulfilling job. Together, their combined efforts have bestowed upon their children a life of comfort and abundance. Their abode stands as a testament to their hard work, radiating beauty and warmth.”
Abandoning all they hold dear
“Within this family, the children flourish academically, their needs met with unwavering dedication.Life, for the most part, appears to be satisfactory, lacking a more fitting description. However, fatetakes an unexpected turn, blindsiding them without warning or preparation. Suddenly, they findthemselves compelled to abandon everything they hold dear.”
“In this moment, survival eclipses the comfort of a cozy bed. It surpasses the solace found in a steaming bowl of soup on a cold morning. Even the luxury of clean clothes becomes inconsequential. Their only option is to flee, to safeguard their very existence. In this dire circumstance, the sole priority becomes preserving life and cherishing the bonds formed with those around them. This is a true story about my childhood friend. I have a consent to share this story, and we hope it gives hope to someone.”
“Initially, Ayesa struggled to engage with others or form friendships in school. She often found herself alone, without the necessary supplies or books. Recognizing this, I would lend her my own and make an effort to create a welcoming environment in the classroom. Before long, she began to open up and embrace her childhood. She shared her story with me, recounting her journey to freedom.”
“Ayesa’s family, like countless others, had been deeply affected by the Rwandan genocide. Fleeing their home in Rwanda to escape the violence, they embarked on a treacherous journey to Kenya. Tragically, Ayesa’s father was abducted along the way, leaving her, her little brother Bob, and their mother with no choice but to continue running. Tears streaming down their faces, they pressed on until they reached a refugee camp in Kenya.”
“Life in the refugee camp was far from easy for Ayesa. She had to adapt to a completely new way of life while grappling with the haunting memories of the genocide. Nevertheless, she refused to let her circumstances define her. Ayesa sought solace in the activities in school like music, drama and
sports. I remember her always wanting to be in school. she forged with other children in the camp and eagerly pursued her education.”
“Years passed, and Ayesa and her family finally found their way out of the refugee camp, embarking on a fresh start. Ayesa’s academic prowess continued to flourish, leading her to college where she poured her heart and soul into her studies. With unwavering dedication, she graduated with honors, setting the stage for her remarkable journey as a successful nurse. Ayesa utilized her achievements to extend a helping hand to other refugees and victims of the Rwandan genocide, using her own triumphs as a beacon of hope.”
“When the movie, Hotel Rwanda was released, Ayesa requested me to watch it with her. That was the first time I saw my friend cry like a baby. Today, I am still not sure if she fully healed from the trauma but one thing, I am sure of, is that a part of her healed when she watched that movie. Now, as an adult, I understand that many refugees and vulnerable children in Africa lacked access to therapy years back.”
“My dear friend, Ayesa, never had the opportunity for counseling during her childhood. With the help and support from the West and non-governmental organisation, Africa has embraced counselling and therapy. Ayesa’s story stands as a testament to the indomitable spirit of humanity. Despite enduring unimaginable horrors, she rose above adversity, forging a path towards a better life not only for herself but for others as well. Her tale serves as an inspiration to us all, reminding us of the strength that lies within each of us.”
“Ayesa reminds me of the power and resilience of the human spirit. Despite the myriad challenges shefaced throughout her upbringing, she never relinquished her determination or ceased to toil tirelessly. Her unwavering resolve bore fruits.”
“The experiences of Ayesa and her family serve as a testament to the power of hope, perseverance, and unwavering determination. They have transformed their own trials into a beacon of hope for other African families who have lost their way. Their story serves as a poignant reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is always a glimmer of hope for a brighter future.”
