Today we pay tribute to a key figure in the history of European education and international cooperation: Sofia Corradi, affectionately known as “Mamma Erasmus.”

At INCOMA, committed to international mobility, academic cooperation, and educational transformation, we are deeply inspired by her legacy.

Corradi envisioned an idea: that university students could study in another country, learn from another culture, broaden their horizons, and become citizens of the world. Her tireless work led, in 1987, to the official creation of the Erasmus programme — a project that has since changed the lives of millions.

Her words remind us that academic mobility is not merely about “travelling” or “studying abroad”, but about encounter, personal growth, and international cooperation. At INCOMA, we live this every day: through transnational education, cultural diversity, and the creation of networks between institutions and people from different parts of the world.

In her honour, we reaffirm our commitment to:
- Promoting the international mobility of students and researchers.
- Fostering inclusive, diverse, and mutually respectful environments.
- Driving collaborative projects between countries that build bridges, not walls.
- Recognising education as a tool for peace, understanding, and shared progress.

Thank you, Sofia Corradi, for imagining and making possible a programme that continues to shape history today.

Last week we joined partners of PortAbility in Hamburg for our first study visit. Two days full of ideas, visits, and honest discussions about what it really means to prepare port cities for the green and digital transition.

Between port facilities, training centres, and the city’s redeveloped waterfront, we explored how change is reshaping work, skills, and local communities — challenges that feel surprisingly familiar across all our regions.

Back in Seville, it’s exciting to see how this exchange can feed into our own reflections on connecting people, training, and territory in a fairer transition.
